Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most
commonly used forms of medicine in the world.
Acupuncture is based on the traditional
Chinese concept of Qi or Chi energy. Qi encompasses
all vital activities (spiritual, emotional, mental and physical), and it is
the "life force" within all living organisms.
A person's health is
influenced by the flow of Qi in the body. If the flow of energy along
certain pathways throughout the body is blocked or insufficient for some
reason, illness or pain may result. Possible reasons cited for obstructing
the flow of Qi include internal or emotional disturbances, external factors,
imbalances in diet, and stress. |

Stimulation by acupuncture is
said to remove these blockages by diffusing lactic acid and carbon monoxide
that accumulates in muscle tissue. These accumulations are believed to cause
stagnation of blood and stiffness throughout the body. When the pathways are
cleared, energy flows freely and the body's life force is considered
balanced, producing an optimal state of health and well-being.
